The WGBH Media Library and Archives has received a grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to post the archives’ full catalog of materials on the Web.
We’ll be working to expand our internal filemaker library database and post our catalog online, “warts and all,” in the spirit of “more product, less process.”
Next we’ll work with scholars, graduate students, and digital humanities organizations to figure out how researchers can use our records and, through using them, add contextual metadata an increase their accessibility.
The project will build on Open Vault and two previous Mellon-funded projects:
- MLA for Scholarly Use – studied the applicability of our content to scholarly pursuits
- Media Digital Library – a prototype project researching scholarly use of media archives online

In the meantime, watch this space for updates and lessons learned!
